Hello all,

just wondering if there is somewhere on the site that shows the minimum Mac system requirements for EIAS 7 ? It seems like such a simple request, but I can’t find it anywhere. The old EI website had a small pop up window in the product information section - very handy.

Also, have the minimum Mac system requirements for EIAS 8 and Tesla being finalized ?

Thanks

I’m liking the changes at the EI web site. The gallery images that post when you visit are very nice. Also, the updates to the Animator sub-page are excellent. EI is finally mentioning how clean the user interface is, and the smooth work flow users enjoy.

Well done.

Now if the Expressionist web page could just get some graphics! It’s a sea of empty text. LOL.

I own a small residential remodeling company doing mostly additions, high end kitchens, bathrooms and custom decks. I just recieved my 30 day trial and would like to ask current users how well they think EI would work for interior renders (mostly stills but some animation when that extra wow is needed to seal the deal) and exterior fly bys. I’ve used podium, kerky, vray, and fryrender for renders and animations but am looking for something more. I did visit Yons site, very nice work but a much larger scale than I would need as we do not do any commercial work. Any feedback, tips, advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Ian,

Just Wondering V8 will include an Online Manual with links to learner’s videos against every options of the features sets. Been an EIAS USER since V1.5, I am still very much unsure of many options and capabilities of the software and tend to neglect them, only ‘uncover’ or realize their existence when somebody in this forum discuss and show example of the specific functionality.

I am quite impressed by Modo online manual as many videos have been use to illustrate the features sets. Many of us coming from different background and have not undergo a formal CG education so the current manual appears a bit technical. I learn by trying and errors playing with it using the tutorials files included in the DVD. No easier way for newcomers.

Like to see an V8 upgrade include a Learner’s manual/video to ease new learners( I am not shy to be counted).

Regards,

Does anyone have a recipe for creating a CD texture, I’m trying to use the Anisotropic shader and (only just) looking at the scratches shader for this purpose but I’m not sure how to achieve the prism effects you get with a CD surface. If anyone has any tips it would be appreciated.

Here is a big issues that is the key to some of us, at least for me is a little taboo. uhhh

Say i have 2000 clones or mutliple copies of the same object , i got one of them textured ,transparency, clip, ambient, transmission , the whole deal.
Than i go to Create Master Material, than i think ok i now can add the same texture all my copies of the same object.

I tried to texture all of them with a Master Material. but no i have to go object per object to uncheck the LIVE MATERIAL box, and go through each one of them and hit UPDATE FROM MASTER. Is there any easier work flow?

Thanks all,

Hi all,

I’m going to embark on a touch of animation and wanted the collective knowledge to start me off in the right direction.

My aim is to produce something like one of those footballs on a string contraptions that you can get for training (that’s soccer to all you folks in the USA).

So I guess I’ll have a ground plane, a string with one end fixed to a point on the ground, and a football - attached to the end of the string.

Now, I get Rodeo (or I think I do) and know that this can allow me to ‘hit’ the football with another object and it fly off, but what’s the best way to deal with the string ? I want it to bend and twist etc. so my first thought was SimCloth but is that a sensible way of going about it, A SimCloth string and then Rodeo controlling the gravity and forces ?

I’ve seen someone animating a chain on these and I’ll dig around later for it. I suppose that’s the closest I’ve seen to the sort of movement I want to achieve.

If anyone has time to ping some direction my way it would be much appreciated.

All the best

James

Hello all,

I have a few more newbie questions. Feel free to point me in the direction of any tutorials I may have overlooked. I tried to watch all the ones that seemed relevant to what I was trying to do or wanted to do, but I could have missed something.

Where can I find out more about the Particle plugin that comes with EIAS7? In particular, controlling the size of the particles? I tried adjusting the scale, but the larger number I entered, the smaller the particles seemed to get. So, I went the opposite way, and the particles seemed to still get smaller. Seems 1.0 is the optimal number, but I’d like larger particles. And, are there any variations on the shape of the particles? Could a model be imported and used as a particle?

Next question is on the Fire plugin from Konkeptoine. If I want to have flames coming out from an exhaust, I am guessing that would be the plugin I would need? The examples don’t really show anything as dynamic as that, but I’m guessing that if it can do a flame, it ought to do exhaust flames or something too.

Where can I learn more about the Shaders that come with EIAS7? I’ve figured out some through trial and error, but I remain unsure of others that haven’t appeared to do much at all.

Finally, a question on Animation. If I want an object to follow a path but do so realistically, is there an easier way of doing that? For example, if you have a model of a jet, and set it to follow a path emulating take-off, the model will move up and over in a straight line, with the nose pointed straight the whole time. So, it doesn’t look like an actual plane would when taking off. I can rotate the model as needed to get a more natural flight path, but I was just wondering if there was an easier way of setting it such that it would do the movements automatically.

Thanks!
