Hi.

I am trying to create an effect of a light within a glass ball going in a circular motion with its light streaking, like time lapse photography. The effect is almost there with the 2 spheres, the circular motion, glow and blur, but not able to produce the streaking effect. An animation was setup for approximately 4 rotations within 1 second, but motion seemed disjointed and cluttered in some places. An animation for 1 or 2 rotations within 1 second might work if the streaking effect were working.

Motion Blur, camera and glow settings:

Motion Blur:
Shutter angle: 360
Blur intensity: 20
Blur noise: 20
Blur frames: 30

Camera:
f-stop: .5

Glow
Radius: 100
Intensity: 20

What am I missing?

Files attached:
Test 1: 4 rotations within approximately 1 second.
Test 2: Same as test 1 but with more motion blur.
Test 3: 1 rotation within 1 second.

Thank you.

Hi again,

This time I’m having rodeo problems… did a simulation yesterday, opened up the project this morning and something’s odd… the setup window displays the enabled objects fine (and my baked solution is obviously still there in animator) but when I go to the solver window, its blank… no objects visible. reset view does nothing and hitting reset and solve gives nothing, as though theres nothing added to rodeo.

I don’t really want to add my objects and go thru the process again is I can possibly avoid it… tiny changes to the settings seem to make big differences to the solution, and even resetting and resolving without changing any settings yesterday gave a different solution. A fun but fiddly little plugin, aptly named I’m beginning to think!

Any advice re the blank solver window would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi all

Does anyone know a tricksy way of making a (raytraced) reflective object only reflect certain things in the scene, without multiple passes? EG you have a reflective floor, and you only want it to reflect some items. If it doesnt exist in some roundabout way, it might be a nice feature to add to the sets system, perhaps a new tab in the material reflectivity that works like the lights illumination list.

Also, is there any way to get a raytraced reflection object to have a soft edge using maps (doesnt work in transparency or clipping). EG you have a global environment and you also want to blend in a floor reflection object that feathers out.

Cheers

¿ Question for 9 September 2008:

My G5 that died in June, I may have to take it behind the barn and shoot it. I have replaced everything
except logic board and it’s still dead. So… may need more processors.

Anyway, thanks to Ian and Yon, I have gotten good at Renderama. It’s so awesome. If I want to add some
PCs to it (because they are cheaper) any recommendations? Can I get by with some modest Dells? Should
I make sure they have Intel processors? (My main box is a Mac Pro) Phil at EIAS said I can still do this on one
license.

Thanks!!

I just got a new MacPro, and I have upgraded to EIAS 7.0.1. Previously, I had been using 6.5.2 on a G5.

I installed 701 on the MacPro and I can create and save new files, but I cannot open any file saved as 652. EIAS 701 attempts to read the file (after all the links are updated) but then immediately quits (crashes). I have tried it on a number of projects from very complex, to very simple.

I have reinstalled 701, run disk utility and repaired permissions.

A simple question - I have a scene which is very big (4 million polys+) and it won’t render GI with 1.8 GB Ram assigned to camera. (tried different allocations up to this also). I have 2GB in my machine and am looking to get more Ram, but how much can camera address? More than 2GB? I’m on a PPC dual processor Mac running 10.9.

When I make texture maps for use in EIAS I usually use layered PhotoShop files - most of time it works great. I can render a test, then edit the map, save it then render again with the new map. Occasionally, after I have rendered the test, I then edit the map and try to save it from PhotoShop, I get an error saying the file cannot saved because it already open. For some reason having the image placed on a model in EIAS makes PhotoShop think the file is open.

The strange part is how randomly the error seems to occur. Is there any way to avoid this? I think it might have something to do with whether the map is visible on the screen in an EIAS window?
