Is this related to maps?
I’m having a tough time with a 2.92 file.
Seems to be the old img and psd file cusing the problem.
Why is that?
Resaving them doesn’t work.

3d GPS terrain maps

I would like to create a 3d model of a real existing terrain so that I can move about the terrain model at eye level.

At one time there were 3d terrain maps of everywhere, government maps I believe, that could be converted into 3d models. Certainly they were extracted from GPS data. But I have lost the source.

If you know of sources of these GPS terrain maps (free is good) and also the necessary software to convert them into 3d models in a format that can be used in Electric Image on a Mac, I would appreciate hearing from you.

No dynamics and no scripting in Electricimage 8. Is this a joke?

So after waiting all this time to upgrade I find myself with the only “pro”
app that has no scripting or dynamics.
Although Dynamics was clearly listed as a v8 feature.
What a sucker.
I am seriously considering just cancelling the purchase.

Even carrara has dynamics and they’re practically giving that away for free in 3d magazines every year.

What is being done if anything to resolve this?

Get it together for crying out loud and write your own plugin
instead of relying on outside companies.
Roll up your sleeves and get to work already!

Opentype support planned?

So is there any opentype support planned
given that Adobe has given up on postscript type 1?
Anyy new fonts won’t work with eias.
You should also have some kind of preview in the type box.
It’s virtually unchanged since 2.92

Blender liquid sim into EIAS shortcut

Blender liquid to EIAS shortcut

1. Export liquid as separate sequence of OBJ files into a separate folder

2. Start new blend file and name it ‘bucket’ or cup or whatever. It’s entire purpose is to hold the liquid sim’s sequence of OBJ files.

3. Batch import all OBJ’s by shift clicking Import/ Wavefront (.obj) from the file menu in the user pref’s window.
Now each OBJ files is a separate scene in the outliner window

4. Save this file and open another new blender file.

5. Go to the file menu and click on ‘append or link’. Choose the blend file ‘bucket’ or whatever you named it.

6. You’ll see a list of subdirectories, choose the object sub directory.

7. Highlight the model files you want and click ‘load library’. Now you have all the OBJs in one scene.

8. Click on File/Export/ Autodesk FBX

9. Click the Scene Objects button. DO NOT click the enable batch button. Choose what other options you need and hit export.

10. Import the FBX file into EIAS as normal and then do the child cycling.

EDIT: I don’t think I explained this well enough, but you end up with one single FBX file to import into EIAS that contains all the separate model files already in it. Instead of having to import the hundreds or thousands of fact files after you convert them with OBJ2Fac. The process in blender sounds like a lot, but it literally takes like 20 seconds once you know where the commands are and what to do. It took me 4 hours to figure out the first time, but I learned so many things by accident trying to figure it out that I don’t think of it as wasted time.

Is Rampbase.shd a goner? Many of the MForge samples use this plugin. I am guessing it wasn’t ported to UB. Is there something that is equivalent? Thanks. -Derryl

MForge not functional - anyone seen this?

I am attempting to use the mForge shader and go through the documentation
with it. However, I cannot seem to get the shader to work, and when I open
up some of the sample files and render them - the objects with this shader
applied appear black. Which is odd.

I am following the documentation (mforge manual) which states that if you
select preview mode material a - you should see something reflected. All I
see is a black box there where the preview sphere should be. On all of
these example files, it is the same. I took some screen shots to help
illustrate the point more effectively.

In the sample file - lacqeur_project - I selected the object named 1
and then looked at the settings on it. It has the mforge
shader applied, in the diffuse section. Procedural settings
on this are set as viewed in the attachment - where you can see the missing
preview sphere despite the settings of that texture in the sample file being
diverse. Something should show up here!

When I render this file, I get a very odd result. Everything is all dark.

I did other experiments, and it appears that all items this shader are
applied to appear dark and I cannot get a good result.

Also - the shader itself appears completely black in the palette - I do not
know if this is normal, or if it helps at all, but this is what it looks
like in the shader palette on my machine (see last screenshot)

Of course - the test documents I am using came directly from the konkeptoine website,
with no changes made by me (except to point to the right place on the hard
drive).

I am at a loss of what do do, is there anything you can think of that would
make the shader not work on my machine? Am I doing something wrong?

I am running the older version of ei to get these plugins to work ( eias
5.5.3) and I am on an older power mac running osx 10.4.10

So far I can’t open any of these old EI files or import or open old fact models into EIAS 8.

I’m on a mac dual g5 with 10.4.11
Is that normal?
