An Observation About Fonts

Hi folks.
I’m nowhere near the expert level of the people who are on this forum, but I have been using EI off and on for about 10 years now. Since way back then, I’ve used a really kludgy but oddly effective way to get simple Illustrator shapes into EI for extruding and beveling. That is, to create a custom font with the said shape in it, and use Mr Font in Ei to do the work. It’s about as hit and miss as trying to bevel AI shapes in Modeler (my off-and-on nature of use makes getting a REAL, or at least up-to-date modeler not possible). But I like it because it gives me all the surfaces I need.

This got me thinking today… Isn’t Mr Font dealing with Postscript type? How difficult would it be to process .ps or .ai files also? Just a thought. And my apologies if there are several hundred threads already talking about this. Can’t wait for Tesla when all this will be moot. Thanks all for hearing me out.

UV Mapping questions

I’m trying to figure out UV mapping using the tools I have available. Here is what I am trying to do…

1) Create an object using Wings3D.
2) While still in Wings3D, create a UV Map.
3) Export the object as an .obj file.
4) Use Transporter to convert the .obj to a .fac
5) Apply the UV map in Animator.

I’m not very familiar with Transporter, so I’m not sure what settings to change. I do get close. On the object, the rainbow colors should cover most of the object with the squares and triangles appearing as several solid colors.

I have Use UV Space checked and Normalize unchecked. The two wrap options don’t seem to make any difference.

Any help would be appreciated, even if it’s just pointing to a tutorial on how to do UV wrapping in Animator.

thanks,

Ross

Vegetation

What is the best way to have really nice looking vegetation in an animation. It is going to be a lot of it, a small city with a lot of trees and flowers and bushes in it. I would love to use Tree Pro, but it seams it doesn’t work with the latest version of EIAS.

Transmission and shadows

Hello,

does anybody have an idea why the shadows are wrong with transmission enabled. (see attached files)
The 2. picture is with transmission in the shadow tab disabled - and the shadows are OK.

I use a leaf texture on a plant model made with onyxtree modeller. Raytrace transmission amount is 50%. Only 1 light. No GI or other gimmicks. EIAS 7.01 ppc-cfm

Thanks in advance
Michael

Manuals and Samples

Hi, Phil

Phillip - 25 June 2008 11:15 AM

I have someone currently doing three different updates to our site, right now, and the manual for ReUnion is one of them. Should get it posted soon.

Today (week later) we visited

http://www.eitechnologygroup.com/support/konkeptoine

(where docs and supported materials are posted). We see:

- Link to ReUnion manual is incorrect
- ReUnion samples are not posted at all
- NX has no posted manuals nor samples (although AFAIK there are a lot of them)
- RTS doc link points to “David’s World Famous iPod project” (we’ve no idea what is it)
- Ian’s tutorial for Proxy is not posted

and so on

We heard people ask about more tutorials for plugs. It’s not easy for developers but their enthusiasm becomes much less yet when they see EITG pages

A possible source of new procedural textures?

Back in my old Imagine days, a programmer named Richard Jennings created some amazing procedural textures for imagine and sold them for very reasonable prices. He has since expanded to Truespace, Lightwave, Carrera, SoftImage and Darktree. Not being a programmer, I’m not sure how easy it would be for him to port them to EIAS, but I don’t think it would be too hard. Here is his website.

http://www.ifw2.com/

He released a test version of Enhance, which allowed you to play around with the settings for the various textures. It doesn’t have a save feature for the generated texture, but it gives you a good idea of what his textures are capable of. One of the few remaining Imagine forums (http://www.imagine3d.org) still has a link to the viewer and it is still active.

http://www.ifw2.com/Enhance_Viewer.zip

The viewer is for windows only, but his textures will also work on the Mac.

Anyway, I thought I would throw this out to everyone.

Northern Lignts 3D Plugin support problem

Recently I installed in my Mac Pro Core 8 3.2GHz, EIAS 7.0 and purchased Dante 3.0 & Psunami plug-ins to work with. I was very happy to go thru their sample files..and shocked none of their sample or tutorial files worked with EIAS UB , mentioning all these samples are created for old machines. Now people like us how can we benefit from the plug-ins and apply them in our valuable projects. Honestly I lost one client, bcz unable to create some effects in dante as he wanted to have.

Any solution???
