I’m running EIAS 6.5 on a dual opteron 2210 (4 cores) running XP64 with 4 GB of RAM.  I have 4 Renderama slaves (4 cores) on this box each camera is set to 800MB plus another 2 on a Dual G5 powermac set to 800MB.  PC memory utilization says that I have 2GB physical free but that I’m using 3.92GB of pagefile space.  Scene is around 400k polys.  So why is EI not taking full advantage of all of my memory?

Also, load times are kind of wierd on the PC through renderama as well: the local slave on port 1616 really flies, file loads instantly and camera rips through the scene but the other slaves (ports 1617, 1618, 1619) take forever to load, like several minutes.  The Mac slaves out on the network and have already rendered several frames before the local PC slaves have even started rendering.  This opteron box should stomp that g5 so what’s going on?

Let me just add that the render time according to camera on the PC is actually fine, it’s the load time and memory usage that has me confused.

On the RAM, I believe it’s main function is to store the data in your project for quick access, like models, textures, etc.  So the more of those you have the more ram is consumed.  The less the less.  Try adding a few 100MB textures and look at how much ram you are using.
