There is not a formal link to this page yet on the Wiki home page for obvious reasons.
Ian has created a great starting point under the “glass” section for the page layouts.
You can view the code used to create those pages by viewing the page and clicking “edit” at the top right corner.
Let’s review the posts in this thread, and add to/edit the to do list.
Related thoughts can be posted here for response by others.
Hi Guys.
I have done some work on the Wiki Material Repository.
Hopefully Ian won’t mind cleaning up a little mess i made....
There are some extraneous Wiki “categories” that need deleting.
I knocked out everything on the to do list except for the graphic banner, and uploading the standed scene files.
The file size upload limit is too small and should be increased. The scene files are around 2.6 MB in a Zip archive. I would imagine that some of the materials being uploaded could easily reach that size as well (with textures).
I made some minor changes to the preview scene files. I just exchanged the PSD for an .img file, and removed the “*” from some of the file names (possible illegal character?). I just wanted to eliminate any possible minor problems.
Check out the to do, and check out the “add a material” link at the bottom of the repository main page.
You can follow the links to see what I ‘ve done.
I attempted to add Wiki “Categories” as keywords to the material. Basically each material can belong to multiple keyword categories, so there can be some dynamic browsing in addition to the visual pages. That’s where I made the mess.
Hopefully it’s not overkill. Let me know what you think.
Suggestions for improving the pages I worked on are welcome!
Dave,
Well done. I’ll start playing around with it soon, and begin rendering out materials. I’m sure we can make changes as issues arise. I can take a stab at the banner this weekend.

The only thing to remember is that each material page is created by hand. So any change in format will be difficult once materials start going up.
The instruction page will need some editing, but there’s only one of those...so that can wait.
Any thoughts on additional keywords, changes etc. Should be added now. So please let me know if you have any thoughts. It wouldn’t hurt to attempt adding a couple of materials to get the feel of it, and see if there are any changes that need to be made. You can create new “pages” change info, and even delete all of the content, but the page itself can only be deleted by an admin. Same goes for creating keywords (wiki categories), so lets talk about any we want to add before actually coding them.
When you edit the code it looks a little confusing. No big deal, But it will be easy to make little mistakes.
Ok,
I’m ready to make good on the earlier promise, and render out the EI material library. I do have a question on reflectivity. Most of the materials us some other form of reflection than ‘normal’ raytrace. Should I leave as is, or make them all ‘normal’
I realise I’m just sat here doing absolutely nothing productive to aid this project, but speaking as a pilot fish this seemed like a really good idea and I was/am looking forward to using all of the textures you power users* create for us weekend EI users.
So is everyone hard at work creating textures for this wiki, or has real life meant the project has crashed and burned a little? I’m currently trying to create some chrome for a lightbulb of all things (image attached) and it looks a little crappy to say the least compared with some of the textures throughout this thread.
Anyhoo, I just wanted to pipe up that it all looks very cool and I hope the project continues soon as it would be a great and helpful resource.
*see the way I’m even trying to massage your egos into continuing this project
I think your bulb is looking really good. I like the lighting, and the materials look good to me (maybe it’s your turn to add to the wiki )
With chrome there are two things that can help it, the first would be a few scratches or other blemishes, especially in the reflection and specular channels. The other would be some environment to reflect that wasn’t just black. I think it was Ian that once suggested reflecting a slightly blurred image as opposed to using reflection blur. That would make the tin part look less like polished steel.
As for the bank.. it’s open for deposits. It looks like folks are valuing their weekends too much.
Very cool, that’s a lot of work you’ve done there - and I didn’t even realise you had done it since I was looking at the wiki.
It’s interesting seeing all of those textures rendered on something other than the good old Materials ball.
Thankyou for the chrome tips, I’ll mess around with them and see how I get on.
Hey, maybe you’re right, if I upload a terrible bit of chrome it might force a few people hands into trumping/correcting my effort - then I can nick theirs.
Hi all,
I have create on my site a free section for download EIAS material. Any user can download material for free. For contribute please register and upload your files. In section “EIAS MATERIAL SCENE” you can download a project for renderings (in this moment file is optimize for last versione of Eias, because it is setting for HDRI and GI). Render thumbs at 400x400 pixels in JPG. Compress your “.mtr” and any textures into unique ZIP file. After registration, login on site and submit file and thumb via simple interface. Choose on your PC a zip file and jpg thumb, choose material section, title, description and share your material with any EIAS user.
This is a beta simple Repository, I work for material thumb category and other features with Dave-Arketype Design. Many thanks Dave for your important support.
