Hi,

I am a designer and have been involved in Broadcast Design for the last 24 years (back when there were black and white TV sets). So I have to say that I use EI for motion graphics and FX work:
80% Broadcast Design
20% Effects (Documentaries)

Hi everyone!

Thank-you so much for responding!

I’m really sorry I lumped all the Product Visualises into the round hole, I assure you it wasn’t on purpose smile

Information like this helps EITG to know in what direction their energies would best be focussed.

Cheerio,
Ian

Hehe… I’m a newbie on the board… but just had to vote. Sadly haven’t been doing much 3D at all these days… but maybe will again one day. Architectural Viz for me, though have done some product viz and title work for DVD.

Well, “anything for a buck” not being an option, I had to vote for “Square peg, round hole (Other).”

Being new to EIAS and still learning, right now I use it for (a) a new source of frustration and (b) making logos 3D and spinning them around, primarily for my own amusement.

Once I master EIAS, or at least know my way around it better, I would like to be using it for the “All of the Above” option which wasn’t an option.  I have clients I do 2D work for now that would likely be sold on 3D work if I can offer it.  I have one client that I could probably sell on 3 or 4 of the six options offered.

If I had to pick just one, I guess I would have to go with “Graphic/Print Design.” I imagine web page design and development fits under that.

Then again, MoGraph/Character Animation is the reason I bought EIAS.  Graphic/Print Design is how I justify it.  wink

Hi Ian,

mostly i do cars and trains -> still visualisations for print, but sometimes they get
a life and move (depends on the budget) And we use Ei often for creating backgrounds,
forgrounds, little 3D things of everyday life, mostly for web or print.

Hej Ian,

I don`t feel like fitting perfectly in one of that drawers neither.
And somehow… I don`want to wink
I use EIAS everytime when it comes to rendering and animation.
That includes 3D illustrations for Graphic/Print, product visualisations,
but also technical animations and sometimes mograph clips for advertising.
It`s really “across country” so I didn`t poll.

I use EIAS primarily for graphic design. Once or twice a year we are afforded the odd multimedia job to do simple animations or motion graphics for the web or CD/DVD-ROM.

Ian,
I do almost entirely Arch Vis, with some design visualization.  Over ten years now with EI.  I’ve been very happy with what EI offers towards this end.  Recent developments in the software have greatly aided my work.  It’s a lot of fun when I’m contracting in someone’s office, and I can pull out an image in a few hours on one machine, and they send it off overnight on 12 machines for a similar image.

For capturing a new audience, I’d suggest adding a more robust material library.  For a first time user it must be a bit daunting to try and figure out how to get a brushed steel look, or any of the millions of other textures which are offered else where.

Thanks EI for a great package, and thanks Ian for your dedication to the users.

Keep the votes coming smile

Yon, I know what you mean, we had a client visit out office, I handed over the animation we’d done for him (of a MASSIVE redevelopment), he watched it on his laptop in our office and said:

“You know, when we had the first flythough of this site done the guys that did it had a nightmare, computers crashing, things not working and they couldn’t believe how long it took to render.”

This 3D company (64bit Max users wink refused to work on the job anymore because, effectively, they couldn’t handle it.

They rendered an animation of phase one. We just finished an animation of phases one, two and three (all in one). It’s over three times the size, with all the houses, trees, cars, people, signs etc., it weighs in at over 10,000 groups. We’re also approaching the limits of what EIAS is capable, that’s for sure. The fact of the matter is EIAS could do it, and others couldn’t. Incidentally, Proxy.plm was used extensively in this project.

Yes, it’s a very, very good program smile

Ian,
I don’t want to hijack you post, still I’m wondering if you could share your experience with the Proxy.plm at some point in a new post.  Maybe describe how you use it and what it’s advantages are.  I’m not asking for a tutorial wink The descriptions of the plug-ins are so short, you really only get what they do after you buy them.

Thanks for sharing that story, I’ll pass it on to a firm wanting to add 3D to there architecture.

Take care,
Yon

I’m happy to see so many Architectural Renders in the group.  Maybe we could push for Sketchup import.  I know it’s an awful modeler, but all the firms are using it.  It sure would be nice to be able to take their models directly into Animator. cheese

I know, but you have to ask.
