Is Camera capable of 16 bit output? I downloaded the “no save” demo of EIAS and was looking around in the output options in the Render Settings. I did not see any option for 16bit/channel or “billions of colors” available in either Image file or QuickTime output.

Also, ssn’t there supposed to be layered PS output and RPF output? Am I missing something simple somewhere?

Hi Jeff,

Camera does not output to bith depths higher than 8bit. The layer output can be found in the “layers” tab of the render info. You need to apply the layer shader (or rpf post shader) in order to use this.

No 16 bit output gives me some pause. I have certainly output some nice looking stuff in the past in EI but, have really gotten used to having 16 bits/channel which is especially nice for subtle gradients and the like. It also gives me a lot more latitude in compositing. Perhaps, this is coming in v8?

We usually simply convert the 8 bit renders to 32bit space in post production, this is more forgiving then 8 bit space when doing extreme alterations. As for 32 bit output, it’s a really big job. 64 bit and Multi-Processing first
