I am trying to render a still image for a client but I keep running into the same error message (see attached image). It seems I cannot render any type of still image format which is slightly depressing. What am I doing wrong? And: what is a solution?

That error seems to be related to Quicktime and the chosen compressor.

From Guide to Camera Errors:
QTUT 103 Cannot begin movie compression. System error and file path given.

I generally render into .img format (which seems the most robust), and open this in Photoshop (for stills) or QT Pro (for animation and compression after the fact).

Error 103 occurs when Camera begins the compressions process (when it calls QT to compress).
-3954 is a Mac System Error: kQDCorruptPICTDataErr

It sounds like you were rendering to PICT with a compression parameter not supported by QT.
I’m not sure how this could have happened.

Thanks for the replies. As this error was easily repeated in the past week (in an unpredictable but regular frequency) I better stick to the .IMG > Photoshop > TIFF route then…

I wonder how big (x by y) the PICT was. Might be a problem with a resolution limit in the PICT file format

It wasn’t that big: 2400 x 1800 pixels.

I think anything above 2048 x Y isn’t supported by PICT

That would surprise me (unless it is a restriction within Camera), since I regularly produce 4800x3600 PICTs in a different application that cause me no trouble.

The original PICT format didn’t support more than 2K across. We don’t render to PICT directly. Instead we render to Image and then
call QuickTime to convert the image file to a PICT. It appears that the buffer that holds the data before it can be converted has a 2k
limitation. That’s why QuickTime is issuing the error message.

I don’t know if the problem lies in the old Mac GWorld system or in the codec we are using for conversion. Clearly there is a newer
PICT format that doesn’t have the resolution limit.
