Hi everyone,

With the release so very close, it’s time to share the last hidden gems....
The attached image shows two new features in EIAS 8, one is obvious, but what is the other?

Discuss!

Yay! lofting no wait it’s displacement lol

Vector displacement like it is in Modo would be cool.
Lofting along the lines of what Trestle used to do would be (nearly) cool.
Not sure if I’d be interested if it was a new ubershape primitive though.

Ooh, is it that mathematical thingy they were making, that creates models based on equations?

10 points to BJ, it’s a Parametric Modeller plug-in wink

It has plenty of pre-sets though, so no need to worry about equations unless you really want to!

It is named AdaptiveDicer, that would suggest it needs a model to be diced...Why does that remind me of Encage...?

Parametric modeler plugin you say?  Is it animatable? Can I have my V8 copy right away?

That sounds cool.

Actually I like programs such as K3dSurf & XplorMath 3d so it’s very cool to have something like that in EIAS.

Really the improvements to camera & lighting alone have nearly sold me the upgrade.

Ian,
can you shed any light on improvements to file handling in v8 particularly OBJ & collada DAE
I really do not see much future in the current situation where we must rely on OBJ2Fact, Polytrans & formZ -
is Silo fact export working properly yet?

EIAS really needs to have this polished & problem free

wow! parametric modeler, that sound very good!

Ian, please show us the interface.

mmm weight maps for dicer that’s cool.

can’t wait

Well this is a nice pair of additions. I’m glad to see the Igors are starting to implement some of the ideas we generated from the Paralumino days into v8. The Parametric Surfaces (PS) modeler was a plugin we started working on to compliment the rest of the Para-geometry series of plugins. Unfortunately PS didnt’ make it to production because of some animation limitations. Hopefully those have been overcome. Congrats Igors. Judging from what I saw in the early days, this will be a very welcomed plugin. As usual, your work is exemplary.

I’m really interested in the adaptive dicer. Dicing via strength map should be quite beneficial.

The idea of using a weight map to define an area of dicing, if that is what it does, won’t make it like encage. (Thus I doubt this is SDS) Rather the weight map would hopefully define a region of the model where dicing would occur. The benefits of this are plain to see. For instance, you could define more resolution in a few specific regions that would be more beneficial for deformation requirements without having to dice everything.

Or I could be wrong. smile

At the time Richard, PS couldn’t animate due to limitations within XP. If those have been corrected, then yes, animation should be possible.

Another interesting concept for the adaptive dicer would be if it could accept animated strength maps to dynamically assign where dicing occurs over time. With such, you could have the makings of a primitive Level of Detail (LOD) tool.

Flying over terrain could benefit from this for example.

Very interesting interface, I hope that those parameters are animatables, I like the sliders and Apply option pure Igor’s style.

perhaps it is possible to made fractals forms…

Ian, thank you for show us the interface,

Where it says ‘E’, you click that to put in a custom equation if you want to make your own maths shapes… smile

If you look carefully at the screenshot, you wil notice the “E” button at the end of each slider, and my guess is that it probably means something like “Enveloppe ?”, in which case you’d have the answer to your wish.  smile

Well, it’s just a guess, but i think i’m not that far from the truth.

Cheers,
Laurent aka Tartiflette smile

Edit : Oops, Ian was quicker than me and the reply is that i was off in my guess ! :o
At least, it was fun to try to guess what it meant ! wink
