Hi there, some of you may have seen my post on the demise of my G5 Quad (when I’ve finished this job I’ll be banging on Apple’s door to get some satisfaction). Anyway I’m now using an Intel 2.66 which is very nice (does Sponza with 4 cameras each at 1.8 gig Ram in 35 seconds - including file transfer to renderama).

I noticed for the first time that in my scene, shaded in phong, I could move the lights around and get a real time preview of what they were doing - took me by surprise. But now I must have done something (changed a setting etc) as when i move the lights now it goes to an extent view and then redraws once I’ve moved the light. What settings do I need to return to the constant real time shaded preview.

Cheers

James

Hi James,

There are some little icons in the lower-left corner of the Camera window (I’m still on EIAS 6.5.2 so I don’t know if this has changed in version 6.6).  The second icon from the left is the “Shade Mode” ball.  If you click-and-hold this icon, a drop-down menu appears.  Choosing an option like “Display Flat Shaded” will display your objects as solids and it will show you the lighting on your objects.

I don’t know if this is what you meant . . .

Howdy James,

The setting you want is called “Mouse Drag” and is located in the Drawing tab of the Preferences. Change the value to 0.0 and you should get the behaviour you expect.

I also think I owe you an email! I’ll get on that tonight smile

that’s the fellah - super cool Ian. By the way did you see that I fried my G5 Quad ! I’m still in mourning although my new Intel 2.66, now with 9 gig of Ram seems to be fairly nippy !
