Semi-frequent crashing 7.0 on Leopard

Just upgraded to 7.0 (congrats on a great upgrade BTW).

iMac (new aluminum, 24")
Leopard (10.5.1)
EIAS 7.0.0

I’m not doing anything terribly complex, just running around the interface, rendering simple scenes, really just getting re-familiarized after being away for a while.  The crashes sometimes seem to occur while Animator is in the background and I’m in another app (Firefox, etc).

I have Animator assigned to a specific space in Spaces, although this should be transaprent to the app.

I have yet to create a specific series of actions that will cause it to happen.  is there any specific info I can provide to help debug?

So far, I have been unable to reproduce the problem - even when I used the project you sent me. The crash you reported was in
Apple’s QuickDraw libarary - SetGWorld. I don’t see why this is happening to you but not to me.

Mike seems to think this problem is caused by running the old EI Modeler in the background.

We’ve been getting this on 700 and 701 here in our office across a mix of G5s and MacPros, all using the UB.

I’ll start saving crash reports, it only occurs when Animator is in the background and appears to be timer related....

OK, been doing some more testing.  Still nothing concrete though.  I have run many many tests where I simply waited for Camera to complete and all seems to work fine.  If I switch apps while rendering, leaving Camera and Animator in the background, Animator seems to crash more frequently.  It also sometimes happen before Camera completes, but it seems to usually happen once Camera is complete and passes control back to Animator.

Quick question?  Dopes Camera write the finished image to disk prior to returning to Animator?  Just wondering because when I get this crash, I loose my snapshot render.

I’m still doing tests to see if I can get it to crash consistently.

Yeap, I can confim that, it happened when Camera was passing the file to Animator - Animator crashed, this bug reminds me a lot of one we have back at 5.5. The snapshot however was saved here.

Report emailed to Matt,
Ian

Edit: Both Camera and Animator were in the background when this happened.

Well, after many many tests, I can’t reproduce the problem....figures.  For now, I’ll chalk this up to gremlins, but if I can determine any pattern, I’ll let you know.

I have no doubt there is an issue. Crashes reported by two different people showed that Animator died in Apple’s QuickDraw library.
If we can reproduce the problem, I’m sure we can find a way to fix it.

I appreciate the feedback.  I still have yet to identify and specific re-producible cause.  I’ll keep trying though.  What I can say is that it doesn’t seem tied to having any other apps running, as sometime it crashes all on it’s own grin

Any chance of getting a special build that has more debugging/logging enabled?
