Hi, Hans

Hans M. Schulz - 28 February 2008 03:46 AM

That is not what I mean.
I´m working with a 4 processor Mac - 4 Cameras, 4 Slaves (all with different IDs off course) + other slave machines.
So I´m using Camera 1 for preview purpose (not within Renderama), 2,3+4 as Renderama slaves.

The “Camera 1” also should have unique port number NO MATTER it’s launched by Animator/Finder (not by slave app). Any instance of Camera at startup reads port ID from preferences file (app folder) and uses this ID for data exchange.

Hi, last night i started rendering using Renderama (7.0.1), two Intel Macs (1x Tiger, 1 x Leopard) and 10 Renderama Slaves. Tomorrow morning Renderama is still running, all clients are still activated and there are no error messages. 11 percent of the render job is done, but no Camera is running. In the Renderama window the status for each client is “idle”. I restart Renderama to proceed the rendering, but nothing happened. I restart the computer and then first tried to start the Renderama Slaves, but they quit immediately. I deleted all Prefs i found, but the same, it’s not possible to start any Renderama Slave.

What can i do to use Renderama 7.0.1 again (7.0.0 starts without problems)?

Regards, Heiko

(I am using EIAS/Renderama since many years with no problems. There is no restriction in my LAN. It’s the first time i’m using more then 1 computer with version 7.0.1 and it’s the first time this Renderama error appears.)

I have seen this problem A LOT over the last couple of weeks....

Do you have the Apple firewall turned on? System Prefs > Sharing in 10.4 - and System Prefs > Security in 10.5

Hioko

the only way i could get the slaves to restart was to delete the cache from the user/library/cache then repaired permissions. after that run each slave and change their ips.

Now my problem is that the slaves are not being found.
here is what i get
on the slaves windows i have this
Slave: # different for each one, i have 3 of them
Master: No Master
Job: No Job
Status: Waiting
This is for the 3 slaves that i am running

On the renderama window i have this
Jobs
name of the job
status: Waiting
Completion 0.00%

Slaves
local No Frame Idle
# No Frame Error
same for the other 2 slaves
the only diff. is the ips #s

at the bottom of the window I get this message
An error was encountered at slave #: Couldn’t access slave machine
i get this 3 times

I got this with firewall on and off

Before 7.0.1 i had the same computer and everything worked fine
Mac OS 10.4.11
Dual Core
6GB RAM

hope this helps someone

hi all
one thing i just noticed is that renderama slave is using a different IP than the one on my network preferences
but if i launch renderama slaves from ver6.. they get the right IP address.
Do slaves get the IP automatically or is there a way to set it manually?

Working!!!!
The ethernet cable on my machine was connected to port number 2 and was getting a different IP address.
I plugged in the cable to port number one launched the slaves, changed the port number, etc....
and everything just works

Hope this helps

and thanks to all that posted

It is very confusing. We are going to have to do a bit of research about this. It appears we need to do more than ask for the current IP address. We do something like ask for the active Port and then the current IP. Very weird.

I don’t understand. Why would adding a second machine be any different under 7.0.1 than it was in earlier versions.

for me would be the first time adding another machine, thats why i am asking how to do it. is there anything different than adding just another slave? because I added another slave with a the IP from the other machine and gave me the “cant access the slave” error

Ok, no Firewall is working anywhere.
But I have open PS, Freehand and PowerPoint sometimes while working in EI - may be this can make problems ?

And, like I said before, it seems it crashes only than, when a preview is rendering while sending a job to renderama and renderama itself is working at the same time (not only open).
