Hi all

Does anyone have a recipe for creating a CD texture, I’m trying to use the Anisotropic shader and (only just) looking at the scratches shader for this purpose but I’m not sure how to achieve the prism effects you get with a CD surface. If anyone has any tips it would be appreciated.

Regards

James

ps. I was away for the feature voting but pleased with the results - looking forward to V8 ( va va va voom!)

Hi James,

Check out the ‘reunion’ pack in the Konkeptoine plugins section, head over to konkeptoine.com and download the manuals. There is a preset inside the shader to create a physically correct CD texture with all the diffraction you can handle! smile

Best,
Ian

James,
They have a plugin just for this, which seems to indicate its not straight forward.
http://www.eitechnologygroup.com/products/reunion ** I see Ian beat me to it, never get coffee mid-post wink **

If you read how that plugin is applied, it may also give you an idea which channels to play around with.  I’ve seen this question come up before, perhaps with ‘DVD’ in the title.  I’m not finding the link off hand.  In addition to anistropic, you might look at the gradient shader.

If you have MForge, there is a cd material from the old electo303 site here http://electro303.paralumino.com/electro303/03-materials/material_Bank/02-Metal/page_mat003.html

If you have any luck, let us know how.

James,
I’d love to have MForge, and a bunch of the other texture plug-ins as well.  Usually my renderings are not close enough to the subject (architecture) to necessitate that level of reality.  I’m slowly adding plugins as budgets permit, and of course once I use them I wish I had added them years ago.  One day I’ll have the extensive list Ian has (as seen in the training videos).  That boy has a ton of plugins wink And knows how to use ‘em.
