Hi, I’m trying to render like a part of a road that explodes. I’m rendering it over a white plane, so that I can later icomposite it AFX. (if you want to know what I’m talking about see Andrew Kramer’s tutorial of meteor crash on http://www.videocopilot.net/tutorials/) I’m rendering the explosion (that I did using Dante) with Global Illumination. The problem is taht GI doen’t allow my plane to generate a shadow mask, so I’m rendering it with the layer tab. When it comes to motion blur, the renders are horrible, with white borders.
Anyone knows how to achieve this with EIAS?
Thanks

have you tried switching the alpha channel mode in your compositor from straight to premultiply black or vice versa?

1) Shadow mask is calculated as a ratio between shadowed and not shadowed lighting. This technique cannot be used for GI because its “unshadow portion” is unknown. So, yes, you need to use layers

2) Motion blur does not affect layers in PSD file, but automatically creates another one layer that is a copy of Camera’s blur buffer applied to image. This layer can be used for composition. Maybe you need just to turn it off in PSD(s)

3) If there are artifacts - please prepare bug/test prj and let us know

Hi Igors,

I’m getting noise in my blur pass as well as the border Carlos is talking about. I tried turning off noise. that did not solve it.

We need to see a “patient” to diagnose, please upload a sample project

You are right, motion blur layer is buggy. Fixed, will be available in EI8. Note: blur layer itself looks noisy, it’s normal. But result should be smooth if it’s applied (see attached images).

About DOF artifacts. Please post a prj with camera’s position corresponds to your screenshots (in order we can reproduce them). We already have all files need only “prj”.

Thank you

Thanks Igors…

the screen shots were taken from the same project. i just cropped in on it with the screen capture tool so it was small enough to send. it’s one of the earlier frames in the animation when the apples are far apart.

let me know if i can help in any other way…

Please tell us which frame - we need to reproduce same buggy pixels exactly to fix.

Hi Igors,

it’s in frames 0-20, after looking at them again i see the artifact never changes position, it’s like the apple is rolling through it.

thanks.
