View How to report a bug
To report a bug, you need to provide the following information:
Section 1: About your system
OS (eg. Mac OSX 10.5.2, Windows Vista etc.)
CPU (eg. MacTel, G5)
Section 2: About EI
Version (eg. 6.5 or 701)
Are you rendering via Renderama?
Section 3: About the bug
Provide a list of steps to reproduce the bug, no matter how simple the bug seems, this is essential.
For example:
1. New project
2. Add 3D text
3. Type somthing
4. Change font
5. Change font (going one down the list repeatedly, as if to check what font looks good)
6. Error will appear after 5-10 font changes.
Then, if it seems appropriate, please upload a project that reproduces the bug (this is again essential for Camera bugs).
Before you upload a project, remove as much as you can from the project without ‘fixing’ the bug. We call this ‘minimising the project’. In most cases you’ll want an archive smaller then 5mb.
Bugs can be fixed quickly if all the information listed above is given. If something is missing, the bug may take much, much longer to fix. An example of this is the ‘Crash on Save bug’ that appeared in 6.6 - many people reported it, but, without steps to reproduce it, as annoyingly for all involved, it seemed totally random. It wasn’t fixed, but then, 6 months later, a way to reproduce it was found - this long standing bug was then fixed within 24 hours.
Hope this helps!
