There are two ways to move Modo geometery to EIAS.
A. Use the obj2fact application from RAMJAC Software.
http://www.ramjac.com/obj2fact/obj2fact.html
B. Use the fbx file exporter from Modo as follows:
1. ‘clean’ the file in Modo before export, stripping the file of all unnecessary ballast (materials, selection sets, parts etc.)
2. Put all the objects on separate layers in MODO
3. Take extra care with UV’s. Only one UV map per object, the UV map has to cover all the geometry (it is possible to create UV’s that only partially cover an object in Modo)
4. Export as .fbx
5. Open the .fbx file in Animator using File > Open File… Animator will create a .prj and a .fac file
6. Optionally, use Konkeptoine’s Encage to smooth the objects.
7. If you need the geometry to look hard edged, run the .fac file that was created through Transporter at the default settings.
The resulting models look great and both their normals and UVs are preserved.
Note: By default, EIAS has the “Normalize” box ticked on (In the “Group Info” window, shading tab). When importing an FBX from Modo, that box should always be ticked off.
