View Planet clouds from space
Category:EIAS -> Working in EIAS -> Techniques
There are lots of ways to make good looking clouds-here’s one that works.
Duplicate your planet and scale it up just a bit. This will be your cloud layer.
Get rid of your planet textures on the duplicate, and add a cloud shader to the transparency channel. Change the shader colors from that awful blue and white to black and white. Consider using more than one layer of clouds to vary the density somewhat. Also try scaling the shader vertically so it smushes the cloud shapes (keeps em from looking so “computery").
When you get them looking the way you like, you’ll probably want to duplicate the shaders from transparency and paste them into luminance channel to beef up the appearance. Do this after tweaking the transparency channel shaders so the settings don’t need to be re-entered.
Give the luminance a color that fits your planet and crank up the slider as needed to make it work.
Be sure and lower specular setting all the way (to darker) for the cloud sphere or you’ll get a big ugly highlight on your cloud sphere, blowing the effect.
Hope this helps
