The QuickTime plug-in for Mac and Windows allows QT to open Image files as if they were native QuickTime movies. This also allows you to use Image files in any application that understands QuickTime.

The Photshop Plug-ins for Mac and Windows allows Photoshop to Open and Save Image files natively.
